We believe the best break spots are not just "cheap" or "hyped" — they are spots where checklist exposure, rarity, and momentum support the listed price. The model surfaces where fair proxy and listed price diverge so you can make a more disciplined read, not a guaranteed one.
Spot value formula
Higher value_signal = stronger position relative to modeled fair value. Spots above the threshold are labeled Strong.
1. Exposure (Checklist + Format Odds)
We parse official checklists and pack odds to calculate how much of a set's valuable programs (autos, inserts, prospects) a team or fighter is expected to receive across different formats (hobby, jumbo, breaker delight, etc.). This is mechanical and data-driven.
2. Rarity Multiplier
Teams/fighters with heavy representation in autograph and high-tier insert programs get a boost. A team with 15 Chrome Prospect Autos in a set is rarer and more valuable per hit than one with 3.
3. Momentum Index
Social signals matter. Upcoming title fights, hot rookie call-ups, playoff runs, controversies, anniversaries — these move desire. We blend structured hype signals with historical momentum (capped to avoid over-reaction).
4. Fair proxy & price gap
We combine the above into a modeled fair proxy per spot, then compare it to the actual listed price on the break. This is where we surface whether the spot appears strong against fair proxy or rich relative to what the model estimates.
Why This Is Different
- Transparency: You can see the checklist data, odds factors, and how we weight things. Most tools are black boxes.
- Reasoned signals: We don't just flag a number — we surface which driver (checklist depth, rarity, momentum, price gap) is moving the read, so you can apply your own judgment.
- Multi-sport unification: Same framework works for UFC fighters, MLB teams, NBA rookies, etc.
- Live market awareness: Phase 3 adds real-time comparison against Whatnot and Fanatics Live spots.
Important Limitations
This is still a screening tool, not a crystal ball. We do not predict the future. Serial numbers, true print runs, breaker-specific collation, and sudden market shocks can all move results. Use Strong-band spots as high-quality starting points for review, not as guarantees.
